July 14th—Bible Readings

Ephesians 1:3-14 — We are all one in Christ

Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he[a] predestined us for adoption to sonship[b] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he[c] made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.11 In him we were also chosen,[d] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

John 10:1-19 —The Good Shepherd and His Sheep

The Good Shepherd and His Sheep

10 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them.

Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

19 The Jews who heard these words were again divided.

Dear friends,

the leaders of the LCA Intercessors Network are excited to invite you to a '24/7 Prayer room' with the intention of praying continuously, around the clock, across the LCANZ for a whole week. We are planning to pray from midnight at the start of Monday 29th July to midnight at the end of Sunday 4th August.

Why would we do this?

We have been inspired by the story of the 24/7 prayer movement worldwide, and inspired by the Spirit to ask God to continue to pour out his Holy Spirit afresh across the LCANZ. . I've been dwelling in Joel chapter 2 - which is the story of the plague of locusts devastating Israel, a call to fasting and prayer and repentance, and God's promise of restoration, followed by the promise to 'pour out the Spirit on all flesh' which is Peter's sermon text on the first Pentecost day. I've also been encouraged to pray for the continual pouring out of the Spirit in the LCA at these times. There is no agenda but to spend time in God's presence. This is not an official LCA event but it is catalysed by New and Renewing Churches and the intercessors' network that is growing across the LCANZ.

For this first week of prayer, we are hoping and planning to pray in a 'virtual prayer room' - so in our own homes, rather than in a geographic location, with the invitation to connect virtually on Whatsapp.

I'm hopeful that we will find volunteers to pray around the clock for a whole week!

I'm challenging myself by taking the 5am shift for four days of the week!

If you want to join us, and sign up for some slots for our week of prayer, you can sign in for a shift at this link:

When you go to that link, you'll also be able to access some prayer ideas and resources.

We would love to have you join the community on Whatsapp as well, to share pictures, handwritten notes, impressions, intercessions, bible verses etc. You don't have to join this Whatsapp to sign up for a prayer slot but it would be great!

You can do that through clicking this link (if you are viewing this email on your phone!)

To find out more about the 24/7 prayer movement, check out these links.

Please get in touch with me if you want more ideas, or want to discuss this, or get a group from your church to engage with 24/7 prayer in this week, or start a prayer room at your own church if you need some support!

God bless you

as we walk with the risen Jesus
